Andrew Howard has received great acclaim for his role as Jon in Mr In-Between, winning the Best Actor prize at both the Tokyo International Film Festival and the Valenciennes Film Festival.
Currently tipped as the 'one to watch', Andrew Howard grew up in Wales, and has already made an impression on the film circuit as a "Welsh Brando". It was his appearance as Trofimov in Michael Cacoyannis's Varya (a.k.a. The Cherry Orchard) which initially brought Howard to the producers’ attention as an actor with a rare intensity on screen.
Howard’s international screen career has seen him star opposite Glenn Close and Patrick Stewart in the remake of The Lion in Winter (he plays Richard, a role previously essayed by Anthony Hopkins). Other movies include cult Australian love story One Perfect Day, shocking Dutch drama Moonlight, Miramax submarine epic Below, and (in the UK) Shades, and the infamous Rancid Aluminium. Howard also the co-starred with Ioan Gruffudd in the low-budget feature Shooters, which he also co-wrote.
On the small screen, he has clocked up strong roles in British television dramas such as Band of Brothers (for Dreamworks), Law and Disorder (Thames), Lifeboat (BBC) and Drover's Gold (BBC), which was the first time he played opposite actor David Calder (the Tattooed Man) - ironically as father and son.
Howard, whose actor heroes include Richard Burton and Micky Rourke, has a spooky understanding of the disturbed character of Jon - which he freely admits. He also shares Jon's meticulousness - "I'm a real tidier. I like to clean. Welshmen like to Hoover."
